Hello, Caldera.

I’m looking for someone with a very specific skillset. Ideally, someone with experience in soulwork, memory entanglement, or sympathetic resonance bound to an object.
Something… old. Something that clings.

To be clear: I’m not asking for an exorcist. Or a necromancer. Or anything illegal, though I’m willing to discuss ethics on a sliding scale.

What I need is a quiet consultation. Discreet. Focused.
It involves a weapon, a mistake, and something I can't put down.

If you understand any of that, please respond to this post. Please don’t comment with guesses. I won’t confirm anything, and you won’t enjoy being wrong.

The tavern hadn’t changed. It never did.

The soft light of the hearth bathed the old wooden beams in warmth, dulled the edges of the warped floorboards. A fresh loaf sat sliced at the bar, spice and honey lingering in the air. Laughter curled from a corner table, too distant to reach him.

It was welcoming, in the way old places were—meant to ease you into this world, whatever version of it you came from. But for Percy, it only made the ache sharper.

He’d found a shadowed table tucked near the back, half-turned from the light, angled to keep his profile hidden. The cravat pin at his throat caught too much light—a polished sapphire now, Undine faction—where he once wore an opal earring instead. He resisted the urge to tuck it away.

Let them assume he was new.
Let them not look closely.

He had white hair here. Always had. But the beard was new. Neat. Trimmed. He’d once idly imagined a thing in front of a mirror years ago, when he’d been someone else—someone clean of blood, broken friendships, Vax’s voice gasping his name before everything went black.

It had been five years for him. Five years of rebuilding, mornings in Whitestone drafting legislation, designing irrigation, creating progress out of ruin. Five years of adventuring that wasn’t quite heroic, of watching Vex brush sea salt from her hair at Dalen’s Closet, of their daughter laughing as the wind caught her curls.

Vesper.

She’d be getting ready for bed now. Or pestering her mother for one more story. Their life had never been quiet—not honestly—but it had been full. Real. Earned.

And now he was back.

Back in Caldera.

Only been a week since he’d died. Since Ashton had brought his hammer down with all the wrath the Tidewraiths had carved into his bones. Ashton, who’d once been a reluctant companion, snapped his spine like it was nothing. Percy hadn’t even screamed.

Only a week since he’d shot a black gryphon from the sky, just to see how much damage the shadow-forged bullets could cause. It hadn’t screamed either. Just crumpled. Folded in on itself like broken paper.

Only been a week since he’d told Barcus the exact words that would hurt most. Since he’d encouraged others into violence, stirred tempers into wildfire, and severed every tie he’d spent months carefully threading together.

The shame clung to him like oil. He could still see Vax’s blood.

And that—

That was the worst of it.

Because Vax had died at his hand.

Or at least… he had. Back then. Before Percy had been flung back into his original timeline. He didn’t know how it worked here. Didn’t know if everyone got pulled back. He had. He’d lived five years in another world and returned with a ring still on his finger: silver, green emerald at the centre, the De Rolo sun beneath it, the roots of the Sun Tree curling on either side. Darling, etched inside the band.

It felt heavier now.

He didn’t know if Vax was alive again. Didn’t know if the people he’d hurt would get to stand again like he had. He didn’t know if they should.

And worst of all, he didn’t know which possibility hurt more—facing a Vax who remembered how he died… or a world where Vax stayed dead while Percy was allowed to return.

The hearth crackled. A chair scraped.

Percy kept his head down.

Let them pass.

Let them think he was new. Let them not look too closely at the man behind the sapphire pin.

Because in a place where it had only been a week, he was still the man who’d burned everything down. And no amount of time—not even five years—had made him ready to be seen.

Character
Name: Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III
Canon: Critical Role
Canon point: "The Frigid Doom" (1x64)
CRAU?: N/A
Age: Mid twenties?
History: History
Personality:

Percy is very much like his weapon of choice- complex and highly loaded. As such, I will approach the different aspects of his personality, such as the barrel of his gun.

Chamber one: Asshole.

While it would be easy enough to blame a lot of Percy's "assholery" on Orthax's influence, that would be disqualifying a lot of times where Percy was a downright asshole even after Orthax's removal. Percy is often seen throwing his last name around, especially when he thinks there is a chance for him to get the upper hand. Some of Percy's asshole ways show up in how he chooses to achieve a goal- for example when he wanted to make a point to teach Grog a lesson about trying to steal items from his lab. He kept silent, and when the acid started to burn, he suggested that water would help cure the burning when he knew that water would do the opposite.

Chamber two: Genius and Insane.

Percy really straddles the thin line between genius and insanity. On the one hand, he is very wise. Wise enough to figure out a loophole around a fey-bound contract dealing with a threshold crest with Garmelie and act as the unofficial lawyer for Vox Machina when he had to act as one to get Keyleth out of prison. But- Percy's intelligence also tends to have him act unhinged at times, such as when he mixes highly combustible chemicals to win a cannonball contest. Or when he locks himself up in his lab and loses track of time tinkering.

Chamber three: Observant.

While Percy is brilliant, there is something to be said where his intelligence would dip into morale boosting. The best example of this was what he did with Westruun, where he took the time to carve the names of the people who lived there and the story of what happened in the city- not as a way to promote the group's name but because it was the best way to boost morale. In Pery's eyes, humans live as long as what they build endures, and everyone would feel the loss of a city.

Chamber four: Guilt-ridden.

The feeling of Guilt- helped shape Percy's personality almost as much as his need for revenge. There's survivor's Guilt for being the only De Rolo for the longest time. There is Guilt for leaving his sister for dead when she was alive the whole time. There is Guilt for being responsible for bringing the concept of guns and their devastating effects, and then there's the newest form of Guilt- being the one responsible for Vex'ahlia's death.

Chamber five: Caring.

Percy has shown signs of caring, especially towards those he has chosen to be his family. The best example of Percy being caring was when he gave Vex'ahlia her title. He knew that Vex'ahlia was dealing with feelings of inadequacy. He gave her a title that not only raised her in a station that put her above her father, but he also told her that she didn't need it since, according to him- she was already better than him and had more than "high classed" members of society had- Heart. Another shining example of Pery being caring was when he had Vax'ildan's shrine to the Raven Queen built. He built the shrine so Vax'ildan could still stay with the group even when he was the champion of the Raven Queen.

Questions, comments, and concerns: I would like to have Percy arrive with Diplomacy, and I understand that it would not hold it's magical abilities- it would be entertaining if I could have it malfunction quite often and electrocute him.

Percival de Rolo
Critical Role
Percy
Male
25-ish
Bisexual
Abilities
⯌ Hex You place a curse on a creature that you can see within range. Until the spell ends, you deal an extra 1d6 Necrotic damage to the target whenever you hit it with an attack roll. Also, choose one ability when you cast the spell. The target has Disadvantage on ability checks made with the chosen ability. If the target drops to 0 Hit Points before this spell ends, you can take a Bonus Action on a later turn to curse a new creature.

⯌ Friends For the duration, you have advantage on all Charisma checks directed at one creature of your choice that isn't hostile toward you. When the spell ends, the creature realizes that you used magic to influence its mood and becomes hostile toward you. A creature prone to violence might attack you. Another creature might seek retribution in other ways (at the DM's discretion), depending on the nature of your interaction with it.

⯌ Minor Illusion You create a sound or an image of an object within range that lasts for the duration. The illusion also ends if you dismiss it as an action or cast this spell again. If you create a sound, its volume can range from a whisper to a scream. It can be your voice, someone else's voice, a lion's roar, a beating of drums, or any other sound you choose. The sound continues unabated throughout the duration, or you can make discrete sounds at different times before the spell ends. If you create an image of an object - such as a chair, muddy footprints, or a small chest - it must be no larger than a 5-foot cube. The image can't create sound, light, smell, or any other sensory effect. Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it. If a creature uses its action to examine the sound or image, the creature can determine that it is an illusion with a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC. If a creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the illusion becomes faint to the creature.
Out-of-Character
⯌ Backtag Yes, please, and I highly encourage it.

⯌ Fourthwall If it is funny, extra points!

⯌ Off-Limits I don't think anything is off limits but communication is key.

⯌ Other
In-Character
⯌ Physical Contact Percy isn't one for being touchy-feely, so he would not actively enjoy any touch he did not encourage.

⯌ Mental Contact Feel free, but be prepared that your character might not like what they see, and Percy will not take an invasion of his private thoughts lightly.

⯌ Flirt Go ahead, but this guy was clueless about how many people had a crush on him.

⯌ Fight He is a fighter for a reason~!

⯌ Injury Sure, let's work together on something.

⯌ Death Talk first, please!
